UPPER COQUETDALE CIRCULARStart time: 10.30 am
Distance: 7½ miles Duration: 4½ hours Start of walk: Park on the grass near the fork in the road, 1 Km beyond Windyhaugh in Upper Coquetdale (GR 860115). How to get there: B6341 through Rothbury, Thropton & Flotterton, then minor road to Harbottle & Alwinton the last hamlet in Upper Coquetdale. Keep on up the valley for another 10Km (6 miles). Notes: A strenuous hill walk in Upper Coquetdale, one of the most dramatic landscapes in the National Park. The outward journey follows the old drovers’ route (The Street) to Windy Gyle and Russell’s Cairn on the Scottish Border. The uphill gradients are long but only the final section to the summit is steep. On a fine day the views are incomparable. We are ordering a fine day to aid navigation.
